Chris and Jen

Chris and Jen got married this past November in Williamsburg (that's 2 down, I'm sure I have about 15 more weddings in Williamsburg to go!) in a beautiful fall-themed wedding.
Jen's mother made her dress! Now there's a budget-saver.The cake by our good friend Josh Carr was really spectacular - and he custom-made it as a gift to the bride and groom. It was every bit as delicious as it was beautiful.
All the gorgeous photos above are courtesy of Kim Hawthorn of Photos Unscripted. Below are some not-quite-as-spectacular shots I managed to snag when not enjoying myself as a guest.

I thought this was pretty cool - inside the church the pews were decorated with wheat (what do you call them - stalks?) and tied with chocolate-colored satin ribbons. It was an inexpensive way to really bring the fall theme together.
The vineyards at the reception site - The Williamsburg Winery.
Another way not to break the bank, the tables had very creative centerpieces - hollowed out pumpkins the came from a friend's orchard, with floating candles.

I loved how the chandeliers at the Winery were decorated with vines. . .it really gave the room a romantic feel. The getaway car.

i adore the more rustic, raw wedding trends that are showing up right now! here is a wonderful example of a rustic tablescape from once wed. burlap, twigs, birch logs, beeswax candles, and a wonderful sense of style and budget, joy from joy thigpen weddings did a wonderful job!

No, No, No!

As previously mentioned, along with all the sublime gowns that floated down the runway last week there were just a few weak points. So today I give you the low lights:

What was with the weird shepherdess trend going on? Sure I'd venture to guess that a huge chunk of brides to be, let's say close to 50%, end up walking down the aisle in the good 'ol classic poofy dress. But nobody wants to look one staff and a few sheep away from being Little Bo Peep, right? Cross these off your list.

Then there was the acoutrement obsession. Hmmmm. Let's see how many doodahs and doohickeys we can add to a dress. Hats! Pleats! Feathers! It's modern, we swear! Nix.

Oh and I just don't know what to do with this one. You carry a bouquet down the aisle, you don't need more attached to your shoulder and your hip. Pass.

And I hate to say it, but the boring award has to go to. . . Badgley Mishka! Who'd have thought that the design duo responsible for some of the most gorgeous gowns to grace the red carpet would produce such a blah, ho-hum bridal line? Skip it.
