Wish Upon a Wedding Gala

Blissful Wishes Ball: A Celebration Gala Benefiting Wish Upon a Wedding

Nonprofit Announces First Annual Cross Country Galas and Online Auctions

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, JUNE 30, 2010 – Wish Upon a Wedding, the world’s first wedding wish granting organization that produces weddings for individuals facing terminal illness, announces today that November has been named the organization’s official Month of Giving. Several fund raising events—dubbed The Blissful Wishes Ball--are open to the public, and will take place in local cities across the country throughout the month of November. Event proceeds will help cover costs associated with granting wedding wishes.

In conjunction with these Galas, couples planning to be married will be able to bid for wedding-related auction items online or at any of the live events, all at incredible prices, during October and November. Wedding and event professionals representing more than 20 auction categories are donating the items, which cover many of the details and services needed to plan the perfect wedding. Items will be donated and available to engaged couples in 46 cities, and range from wedding gowns to tuxedos, invitations to cakes, and limousine services to honeymoons.

A dozen chapters of Wish Upon a Wedding are currently busy preparing for the nonprofit’s nation-wide celebrations, for which tickets will be available beginning August 15, 2010. The online auctions will run during the months of October and November at https://www.biddingforgood.com/auction/AuctionHome.action?auctionId=115386483

Wish Upon a Wedding Gala“We are excited to offer couples a way to bid on wishes for their own weddings, while donating to Wish Upon a Wedding.” said Sasha Souza, the organization’s national president. Souza added, “The Galas that are taking place in November will be a chance for the local communities to learn more about Wish Upon a Wedding, while enjoying great food, entertainment, and exciting auction items from local vendors & suppliers.”

Launched in January 2010, Wish Upon a Wedding is experiencing tremendous growth, with more than 16 chapters nationwide. Those hosting a Blissful Wishes Ball include: Northern California, Southern California, Chicago, Washington D.C., Houston, The Carolinas, Colorado, Portland, St. Louis, Atlanta, and Orlando. Additional events may be announced in the future.

Wish Upon a Wedding is looking for premier auction items related to the wedding and event industry, and services required for complete wedding packages. If interested in donating, and receiving great exposure for YOUR business, please visit the website https://www.biddingforgood.com/auction/AuctionHome.action?auctionId=115386483 and click on Donate an Item. Be sure to add your item to the correct category (city), and don’t forget to include your company logo and URL.

Stemware

por | | 0 comments

You can call me conservative, but I have never been a fan of the garter toss at weddings. The whole thing just makes me avert my eyes. Until I set my eyes on this provocative little number. . .
StemwareDoes it not make you do a double-take? A chic alternative to what you you usually find out there. If you must garter, then I suggest something along these lines, designed by La Boheme. Thanks to The Brides Cafe for pointing it out!

Candyland

por | | 0 comments

Wedding candy bars have become more and more popular in the last few years, but did you know they can also be a great budget-saver? Candies and the means to display them are easily found at low cost, and they are a wonderful way to bring more color and festivity into your wedding reception. Dylan Lauren of Dylan's Candy Bar offers YumSugar readers some tips for hosting a successful candy bar. And because I know you're dying to hear what I have to say on the subject, I've thrown in some tips of my own. . .
Candyland(picture courtesy of chutes and ladders)
Dylan: Include jordan almonds. In Italy, jordan almonds are popular because their egg shape symbolizes fertility and life.

Diana: Yeahhhh, jordan almonds are great and all, popular and traditional at most weddings, but newsflash, they're not the only plain, smooth round candies around. (Now if you're a fan, before you get all huffy, I had them at my wedding too). So include them or don't, but don't forget about your other standbys like M&Ms, Skittles, jellybeans, gum balls, malt balls etc.Candyland (Rebecca Thuss)
Dylan: Integrate silver and white candies. For a wedding theme, incorporate white chocolate roses or white petits fours.

Diana: Consider also Silver Amorini, Hershey kisses, and York Peppermint Patties.
Candyland(Picture courtesy Joos)
Dylan: Match candy to the bridesmaids' dresses. Reinforce your wedding's color scheme in a unique way by matching candy colors to the hues of the wedding party.

Diana: Or the flowers, or the linens, or your new husband's eye color. . .have fun with it!

Dylan: Customize favors. Design custom candy bar wrappers to announce your marriage, or enchant guests with customized lollipops.

Diana: You're catching our drift right? Everything's customizable! Every candy, jar, container, label, scoop and gift baggie is an opportunity for personalization.

Lastly, if it's a wedding that I'm attending, Twizzlers and Peanut M&Ms would be much appreciated.

Beef? Chicken? Surprise me.

por | | 0 comments

InStyle Weddings gets a question this week that many couples face when planning their reception. Peggy Post (Emily's great-granddaughter-in-law) answers an inquiring reader:
Q.
I'd prefer to save money by serving only one entrée, since my fiancé and I have a limited budget. Is this considered acceptable?

A. It's fine to offer your guests just one option for the main course. When selecting it, though, steer clear of more exotic fare, such as sushi or venison, in favor of proven crowd-pleasers or seasonal. In lieu of providing separate vegetarian fare, consider hearty side dishes, such as a fancy pasta salad or sautéed vegetables, so nonmeat eaters won't leave hungry.

Whatever you decide, remember you'll probably never please everyone. Of course, you might also go another route altogether: A buffet can be an affordable alternative to a served meal.

Beef? Chicken? Surprise me.I agree with Peggy that it's certainly considered allowable to present your guests with one entree, but I'd take it even further and say that when I attend a wedding, I actually prefer it when the bride and groom select one main course for their guests. Of couse, picky-eaters, vegetarians, children and all those with any dietary restrictions should be prepared for in advance, and a good wedding planner, caterer and/or reception venue will be able to do so, as well as deal with any guests that request different entree on the spot with ease.

I actually think this way creates a more elegant atmosphere. It avoids the sometime confusion caused by guests who don't remember what dish they checked off when they received the invitation six weeks prior, and as well as seeing placecards marked with meal designators like a "C" or "V", of which I am not a fan.

I think in general, a good event should leave the guests with no questions or confusion. They need to experience nothing but excellent service, without seeing all the tricks and efforts behind it. And truthfully, I don't even like those entree selection cards that come inside most invitations! A line to check off "Beef" or "Chicken" is never going to sound appetizing and won't give the full menu justice.

For our wedding a year and a half ago my husband and I selected a dish for everyone (in accordance with Peggy's advice, a scrumptious but non-exotic entree). We went through the guest list and made plans for all those friends we knew with dietary restrictions (a vegetarian here, a vegetarian there) and everyone was taken care of. We didn't anticipate one of the younger attendees wanting something a little more kid-friendly and the excellent waitstaff at our hotel-venue provided him with a children's meal in no time.

Bon appetit!
