As much as I'd love to stay in town to enjoy the inaugural festivities on the coldest weekend of the year, my husband offered to whisk me off to the tropics instead. Soooo. . .I'm going to do that. For all of you still in town, bundle up and enjoy. I'll be back Wednesday!

Whereas some of those more practical-type brides opt to have their gown preserved immediately after their wedding, I'm one who has definitely dilly-dallied quite a bit. Like, its been two and half years, and my wedding gown has not once come off of it's hanger and out of it's plastic covering. Truthfully, I just haven't been sure what I'd like to do with the darn thing, and indecision has led to inaction. So when Nina and Cindy each recently asked me about gown preservation, I realized I had to do some actual research. First, if you didn't already know, gown preservation refers to the special cleaning and packaging methods that ensure a wedding dress maintains it's beauty, shape and color. When a gown is taken to be preserved, a professional will survey it for the materials used, embellishments, and any mishaps or stains, and then formulate a specialized cleaning procedure unique to your gown. After cleaning, your gown is wrapped and placed in a box for keeping. Let's talk dollar bills y'all. You can expect to pay $400-$800, depending on the gown's materials, embellishments and degree of wear and tear. So how do you find a preservationist? The Knot recommends you start your search early. Before your wedding, ask former brides, your wedding vendors and gown shops for referrals. One word to the wise, lots of dry cleaners will claim to clean wedding gowns, most are not specialized at gown preservation. Happy hunting! (Photo 1 by Love Life Images, Photos 2-4 by Kate Triano)

Title: They Don't Speak English But They Love To Dance - Sandakan, Malaysia (orangutan tail)
A TripAdvisor TripWow video of a travel blog to Sandakan, Malaysia by TravelPod blogger Jmo. See this TripWow and more at http://tripwow.tripadvisor.com/tripwow/ta-00c0-0d02-c807?ytv4=1
They Don't Speak English But They Love To Dance "Greetings from Borneo, It has been a really busy couple weeks since we left the beautiful, relaxing beaches of Cambodia for the steamy jungles of Malaysian Borneo. But after two full days of travel by motorbike, bus, airplane, bus, airplane, taxi and finally ferry we arrived in Kota Kinabalu in Sabah. We stayed at Gayana eco-resort on Gaya island right outside the city in Tunku Abdul Rahman marine national park. This seemed like a good idea as it boasted lots of activities and after lazing around in Cambodia we both felt in need of some activity. Our first day on the island we decided to go for what the eco-resort billed as a "nature walk". Feeling like we were being a bit over prepared for such a simple 4km walk, we grabbed a bottle of water and a couple granola bars and headed off to embrace nature. The first signal that this would not be a simple nature walk was the large sign at the start of the trail warning "Beware of Snakes". Not being a fan of snakes Janice decided I should go first. Normally she leads as I have a horrible sense of direction, I've gotten lost on the Upper East Side let alone the jungle, but as there was the possibility of having to wrestle with a 12 foot python I got the nod. We headed off under the dense, steamy canopy immediately wishing we had worn hiking boots instead of sandals and put on mosquito repellent before leaving for our simple "nature walk". I went along very slowly at first, remembering something from the Discovery Channel about sneaking up on snakes being a bad thing. But as we progressed further into the dense jungle I felt a strong desire to move faster so as to end our "nature walk" as soon as possible. But the trail was narrow and often blocked by either fallen tree limbs covered in massive ants or rattan (palm branches covered in spikes) so the going was slow. Then the truly expected occurred - I got us lost. Not sure how I did it, one minute we were on the trail, markers every 50 meters, next thing we are at the bottom of a steep hill in the middle of a mangrove swamp with no idea which way to go next. We had about an hour or two of sunlight left so deciding sleeping in the jungle was worse than running into a snake Janice forgot her fear of snakes, pushed me aside and powered off into the jungle to find a way out. I won't bore you all with the details of our daring escape from the "nature walk" but it did involve an iguana. Not wanting to repeat our disaster on land we decided to spend the next two days at sea getting our advanced PADI scuba diver certification. The course itself was pretty uneventful, and the visibility of the diving was really bad so we couldn't see much except floating bits of mud, so the highlight was when one of the dive masters played Santa Clause at the resort's Christmas party by wearing a scary white guy mask with a beard. Fortunately, he didn't ask either of us to sit on his lap and tell him what we wanted. After another day or so at the eco-resort spent snorkeling in the national park, and eating at the wonderful seafood restaurant - I know it sounds bad to eat seafood in a marine national park, but it was just so fresh - we met the other travellers who would be joining us on our group trip through the rest of Borneo. Everyone seemed non-axe murdererish, which is always a bonus on a group trip, and we headed off for a small village at the base Mt. Kinabalu before our ascent the next day. Mt. Kinabalu is the tallest mountain in S.E. Asia and had only first been summited within the last fifty years. Upon reaching the summit it used to be tradition to sacrifice 7 white chickens to appease the gods who lived there, but now that KFC has come to Borneo the gods can get chicken any time they want and the sacrifice is no longer necessary. The night before the climb we met our guide Sapingee who decided the best way to prepare us for the arduous climb, was ..." Key insights: The role of action learning in advancing people
Dr Howard Spittle, General Manager, Beaches Boscobel, Jamaica, comments on his learning journey with GULL: "I believe action learning offers the best way forward for many professionals in the Caribbean as well as for every level of employee both in the hospitality business and indeed the wider community. I am now proud to have been a founder member of the GULL Executive Doctor of Management programme for General Managers and Directors of the Sandals group. I know without doubt that unless we walk the talk and truly commit to educating one and all we cannot expect Caribbean society to grow, to improve and to compete effectively in a global environment. GULL makes it possible for everyone to advance personally and professionally and to obtain recognized, professional certification at work."

I watched her, color the little flowers, on the white sheet of paper. The tip of her tongue stuck out, as she tried her best to color between the lines she had drawn, fifteen minutes ago. As she moved the red pencil, violently over the paper, I tucked a strand of hair, that had escaped her perfect ponytail, behind her ears.
"Don't press too hard, baby, you're gonna push right through the paper", I said, softly closing my hand, around hers. And together, we colored the last white flower in the field. Proudly, she held it in front of my nose.
"Look. Flowers", she sang. I nodded.
"Yes, baby, it's beautiful", her face lit up, as a light shade of pink, covered her cheeks.
"Thank you, Biebsy", I loved the way she called me. It sounded so cute, coming from her. She quickly glanced at the clock, hanging up on the wall, and gasped.
" Four thirty. Tea-time. It's tea-time, Biebsy, four thirty", she repeated. Shit! I shot up from the kitchenchair, and walked over to the counter, preparing some tea. The beautiful melody of her laughter, filled the room.
"You forgot again! You always forget, Biebsy, don't you? You always forget", I smiled.
"Yes, Cleo, I always forget. Stupid me", she stood up and trippled my way.
"Stupid Biebsy", she threw her tiny arms around my waist, from behind, and rested her head on my back. We stood like that until I removed the little tea-bag out of the hot water, and took two cups.
"Hot tea! Honk honk! Coming through", I tried imitating the honking of a car, as I walked back to the kitchentable, with her right behind me. She clapped her hands, and laughed.
"Honk honk! Biebsy's funny! Honk honk!" she kept repeating it, until I held the filled cup of tea in front of her. She took it with both hands, and drank, dripping a little on her purple Micky Mouse-shirt. I didn't freak out, like most people would, but patiently waited until she finished, then took the napkin and whiped her mouth and shirt. Cleo learned me to be patient, at any time. Just as we had both finished our cup of tea, the door opened, and Mary came in, with a bag of fresh-bought groceries.
"I'm home!" she cooed.
"Mom!" Cleo threw her arms in the air, and shot up, pushing the porcelain teapot off the table, causing it to shatter in pieces, on the floor.
"Cleo!" Mary shouted out, putting the bag on the counter. Cleo was surprised by her shouting, and started pannicking. She screamed, a deathscream, like she always did, when she got upset. Mary started gathering the pieces of the teapot.
"Make her stop!" she yelled, over Cleo's screams. This caused Cleo to burst out in tears, and double her squeels. Mary continued yelling at me to shut her up, and Cleo covered her ears, with her petite hands, and rocked back and forth. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Written by; kittyRocks777. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Part two will be up soon :]
On our phone call this past Tuesday Elise Enloe went through the points process for increasing your designation within ABC. I am going to send a 6 part e-mail that describes out each section and the final e-mail will be your totaling sheet, maybe one a month or more, depending on time and complexity of the section. The first section is the easiest Education and Professional Development.
1. The easiest way to keep track of everything is go to Staples and purchase a 2 inch three ring binder and at least 5 section pieces. Label the first one Education and Professional Development.
2. Next either re-type or use the one from the www.bridalassn.com website and fill out your points as you go, also include documentation as you add each point to your list.
Here is the breakdown on points: · Professional Development Program if you took the ABC Professional Development Program (full) then you get points for all 7 sections, if you split up the course then add points for each course. Include copies of your certificate.
· Weddings as a business another course ABC offers, see comments from the PDP above
· Working from home same as weddings as a business and the PDP above
· Penn Foster Program if you have graduated from Penn Foster then you get 24 points! Only one point away from earning consultant level!!
· ABC Seminars These are not state meetings, these are the New Horizons, Expanding Horizons, Cultural Horizons, etc. We just had an Expanding Horizons Seminar in July so if you attended, you received a certificate and you get 2 points so photo copy the certificate put it in your binder and write 2 points on your page!
· Annual Conference if youve attended not only do you get the significance of attending and how important it can be for your own piece of mind and business but its 5 points!!! Photo copy your certificate and put it in your binder and mark 5 points for you!
· State or Regional Meetings I coordinate quite a few of these. So far each of our state meetings have been one full day or 6 hours for 1 point. Check out www.ncweddingpros.com for more details you cant afford to miss it!
· Other wedding certificate programs this includes WIPPA or any other community college or online wedding certification program. 5 points, include a copy of your transcript and a copy of your certificate of completion.
· Degrees pretty self explanatory include a copy of your degree and you get the points that apply 1.5 for associates, 3 for bachelors, 5 for masters or 6 for doctorate. If you have an Associates and Bachelors the points will be counted for your Bachelors only .
· Industry / business related education 2 to 4 hour seminar - .25 points. These include the training sessions put on by like Chamber of Commerce, ISES, NACE etc, but it must be education and not networking. Include copies of your registration payment or attendance certificate.
· Industry / business related education 2 to 4 hour seminar see above just longer and more points.
· Industry Related Conferences we all get those e-mails everyday for Wedding MBA, Special Event, Engage, etc. If you attend keep a copy of your payment for registration and any attendance certificate you may receive.
· Additional University College or Industry course pretty self explanatory, just send in a copy of the course specific along with your completion certificate.
