I try to avoid re-posting, but yesterday's guide from YumSugar is too helpful not to. Courtesy of their website, check out how to make these great do-it-yourself invitations with just some every day stationery supplies, and one or two tools available at places like my own personal Disney Land, The Paper Source.
First of all, I have to point out, these invitations are for a couple, Elena and Sean, getting married in October 2009 (if you're currently engaged, don't freak out, it is more than early to be working on invitations, but way to be prepared) at Lake Tahoe. . .their colors are orange and fuchsia with wood and khaki accents. . .can you believe it? Sounds jarring, but you have to admit it's unique, and it's actually growing on me.
First step. . .they composed their invitation text in a Microsoft Word document with the details of the wedding. They used Edwardian Script ITC in size 16 and printed out their invitation text on colored paper. Next, they removed the upper half of two envelopes to create a sleeve.
A third envelope was sealed and covered with the decorative paper. They then lined the inside of the side panels with the decorative paper and set aside. To create a three-piece folding panel, they turned over the sealed and covered envelope and glued the top flaps of the two other envelopes to the back.
Next, they cut some cardstock down to 1/4 of an inch smaller than the folded-closed invite and created three pieces, one for the center and two for the sides.
Now they're getting crafty! With the help of some scalloped scissors they cut the text pages out to be roughly 1/4 of an inch smaller than the colored-cardstock pieces . . .. . .mounted the text on to the colored cardstock with the glue . . .and set aside to dry. They used a branch-shaped hole punch to punch out branches on the remaining colored cardstock. . . .and glued to the edges of the text/cardstock. After that they glued the center text cardstock to the middle panel of the invite and folded to close and tied it with matching ribbon.
They lined the inside of another envelope with decorative paper, slid in the folded invite and they were ready to send!

Lovebites is an original micro-series that focuses on the romantic and domestic exploits of Katie and Max, a witty and spirited twentysomethings couple who are stuck between the carefree college mentality and the seriousness that comes with being an adult. Through lovebites we get a fresh, modern look at how a young couple goes from sharing the bill to sharing keys ... and how drama-filled new relationships can be. In this clip, Katie doesn't withstand her bridesmaid role when she forgets to get a present for the shower.

For the last four months, I've had a blast working on Nina and Todd's wedding. The big day was last Saturday and I'm sad it's over! The new Mr. & Mrs. have great style and are both really creative, so we worked really hard to bring their personal flair in all of the creative touches. Check out these pictures from the fabulous Mary-Kate Mckenna.
Nina and Todd each had their sisters serve as their attendants. Her turquoise slippers were the same shade as their dresses.
Getting her make-up done by Sherry Wagman. Atelier Floral Design handled all the flowers and decor including this super-cute Craspedia bouquet. Nina's father walks her down the aisle at St. Peter's Catholic Church.
Husband and wife! As you can see they did a great job of stopping all over town for pictures (including these at the National Gallery) and still made it to dinner on time! My favorite picture. Cupcakes & mini-cheese cakes by Josh Carr. There are six of them now in my refrigerator. Ok. Five.
Whereas some of those more practical-type brides opt to have their gown preserved immediately after their wedding, I'm one who has definitely dilly-dallied quite a bit. Like, its been two and half years, and my wedding gown has not once come off of it's hanger and out of it's plastic covering. Truthfully, I just haven't been sure what I'd like to do with the darn thing, and indecision has led to inaction. So when Nina and Cindy each recently asked me about gown preservation, I realized I had to do some actual research. First, if you didn't already know, gown preservation refers to the special cleaning and packaging methods that ensure a wedding dress maintains it's beauty, shape and color. When a gown is taken to be preserved, a professional will survey it for the materials used, embellishments, and any mishaps or stains, and then formulate a specialized cleaning procedure unique to your gown. After cleaning, your gown is wrapped and placed in a box for keeping. Let's talk dollar bills y'all. You can expect to pay $400-$800, depending on the gown's materials, embellishments and degree of wear and tear. So how do you find a preservationist? The Knot recommends you start your search early. Before your wedding, ask former brides, your wedding vendors and gown shops for referrals. One word to the wise, lots of dry cleaners will claim to clean wedding gowns, most are not specialized at gown preservation. Happy hunting! (Photo 1 by Love Life Images, Photos 2-4 by Kate Triano)
